According to him, the change has been made to represent the company\u2019s push forward into a new digital age focused on virtual reality, \u201cthe next chapter of social connection. Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram will all be keeping their current app names and the along with Oculus will now be part of the \u201cmetaverse\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the company\u2019s annual Connect conference, Zuckerberg commented, \u201cFrom now on, we\u2019re going to be the metaverse first, not Facebook first. Our brand is so tightly linked to one product that it can\u2019t possibly represent everything we\u2019re doing today, let alone the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Facebook\/status\/1453800021275545601\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">In a tweet released following the announcement<\/a>, the company has described the metaverse as the following:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe metaverse is the next evolution of social connection. It\u2019s a collective project that will be created by people all over the world, and open to everyone. You\u2019ll be able to socialize, learn, collaborate and play in ways that go beyond what\u2019s possible today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-1 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><ul class=\"blocks-gallery-grid\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"http:\/\/localhost\/tunnel_solution\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/photo-1636114673156-052a83459fc1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"1638\" data-full-url=\"http:\/\/localhost\/tunnel_solution\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/photo-1636114673156-052a83459fc1.jpg\" data-link=\"http:\/\/localhost\/tunnel_solution\/?attachment_id=1638\" class=\"wp-image-1638\"\/><\/figure><\/li><\/ul><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>While the company\u2019s future endeavours are moving forward in a new direction, its current corporate structure will remain as is. This rebranding comes in the wake of allegations that the company has prioritized the spreading of misinformation and hate speech due to such techniques having great user engagement and as such, greater profits. The allegations have stemmed from leaked documents that exposed the inner workings of this massive tech giant.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the timings, Zuckerberg has commented that the rebranding has been in the works for a while now and that the recent allegations have had no sway on the matter.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rebranding has received a fair bit of backlash for this move throughout social media, with many mocking the new name.
